  1. Hi Eric - It's great to hear you're recovering from your surgery and to have you back doing podcasts. Your explanation of what you went through and the possible cause is scary. Welcome back! And, thanks for the shout out on MANEATERS: KILLER SHARKS IN MEN'S ADVENTURE MAGAZINES https://bit.ly/3hYgpnJ), the new book I co-edited with Wyatt Doyle. One of the things I think makes it special, besides the classic men's adventure stories and artwork we feature, is that Wyatt got some top shark experts to provide commentary on the stories, discussing what aspects of them are pure shark myth and which have grains of truth. The Foreword by the creator of Shark Week, Steve Chesnik, is also a cool addition -- as is the afterword by Hollywood scriptwriter and director Jack Perez, whose movie credits include some wild shark movies, like DEEP BLUE SEA 2 and MEGA SHARK. Best wishes for your continued recovery and continued Paperback Warrior reviews and podcasts.

Are you doing anything else other than sorting and bagging your books to make your environment safer Best wishes and speedy recovery Thanks for all your knowledge and research I love it

  3. Eric, I was saddened to hear what you'd gone through... and then pleased to learn of your recovery. I'm taking your advice to heart. We up here in Ontario are still obliged to wear masks in stores, but I'll continue wearing one in certain stores once that restriction is lifted.

I was interested to learn about your W.E.D. Ross score. I've been on the hunt for many years, but to no avail. It sometimes seems Canada has no stores like those you and Tom come across in your travels. Why, I do not know. That said, I have been told by several thrift store owners that they send old paperbacks for recycling, rather than put out. You can imagine my restrained reaction (I try to be polite).

Bringing things full circle, just last week I picked up a hardcover W.E.D. Ross (sadly, lacking jacket). This was at a nearby antique store I make a point of visiting once a year. I think we've all experienced the type. The first visit brings all sorts of riches. On the second visit, you buy the things you'd set aside on the first. The third visit you feel you should buy something if only to encourage the owner. There is no turnover - none - which only contributes to the need to wear a mask,

Wishing you the best of health. Tom, too.

    1. Thanks for listening to the show. Tom and I feel fortunate to live in Florida where there is an abundance of paperbacks. Hearing your struggles to locate quality used paperbacks is tough. It’s shocking that these stores destroy (by recycling) paperbacks. Congrats on your first W.E.D. Ross acquisition!
